Peter Chernin Is The New Ron Burgundy.
“If you look at virtually any Web 2.0 application, whether its[sic] YouTube, whether it’s Flicker[sic],* whether it’s Photobucket or any of the next-generation Web applications, almost all of them are really driven off the back of MySpace.” – Peter Chernin
“I don’t know how to put this, but… I’m kind of a big deal.” – Ron Burgundy
*Flicker? Seriously?

This is the sort of typical rubbish that comes from a man who is powerful in “old” media. He shows his total ignorance with every word that falls out of his mouth.

What does that even mean? Is it like saying the ipod is ‘driven off the back’ of the victrola?

It’s more like “the iPod is driven off the back of Linkin Park.”

Ummm, what the guy said may be dumb, but I’m not sure you can really blame him for the misspelling of Flicker. That’s the fault of the person who wrote the story, since presumably Peter Chernin made the comments at the conference and then someone wrote those comments down.
Anyway, just my 2c.

Oh man, that’s priceless – especially the way you’ve captured it with the movie quote.

I think what he’s talking about is the fact that a majority of the traffic that gets to flickr, YouTube, etc, is driven there from MySpace. Obviously, people would use these sites whether MySpace was around or not- In web 2.o speak, MySpace has become the hub on the wheel for social networking.
