A designer friend of mine enlisted me to create a logo as part a website redesign he was doing for a client. The existing logo was not beloved by the client at all, and they wanted something “classy-looking and easily recognizable.”
Rather than pursue the obvious shape of a prism, I chose to instead start with the standard colors of the visible light spectrum. The use of the radial array won out early on as both a mechanism for discovering interesting patterns of overlapping shapes and as a allusion to the familiar color wheel.
The selected logo captures the angular lines of a traditional prism shape, but sort of turns them inside out, resulting in a more interesting rainbow-colored starburst. It’s clean, colorful & energetic — and it looks great on the client’s new website.
